Taking Stock of 2019 and Looking Toward 2020: Building Projects

During 2019, the FCCFA kept pace with the growth of central Ohio’s conventions and events sector – which contributes more than $8 billion to the local economy each year – by pursuing two major building projects: the Ohio Center Garage and the Hilton Columbus Downtown hotel expansion.

After breaking ground in late 2018, the Ohio Center Garage began to rise on the east side of the Greater Columbus Convention Center as the $21 million, 650-space structure moved rapidly toward a completion date in early 2020.

Site preparation for the new 28-story Hilton Tower began in late fall, and construction is expected to ramp up in 2020 with a completion date of early 2022.  A ceremonial groundbreaking on August 9 brought out members of the community and the executive committee of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), in town for the organization’s annual meeting and exposition.
